Meath’s new manager Mick O’Dowd got off to a winning start with his new team with a narrow win against neighbour’s Cavan in Grangegodden Kells. It was an experimental side that was played with very little experience at senior level for Meath and Cavan. Players like Caolan Young , Davy Dalton , Cormac Rowe , Stephan Crosby and Michael Newman all got a starting spot for Meath and a chance to show the new boss what they could do. Cavan got the better of the early exchanges and were ahead at the break 0-6 to 0-5. ¬†Meath kicked back though in the second half through strong displays from Michael Newman and Ciaran Lenehan. Meath ran out winners in the end thanks to Brian Sheridan’s goal which left the scores at 1-10 to 0-10. Meath will now go on to play Offaly in the final after they defeated Louth in the other semi final , while Cavan will take on Louth in the shield decider. The tournament hosted by Kells gives both teams and managers a good chance to look at there squad and to assess the new and different players he has in his squad.
