I decided to put these pictures up because these are my two teams for life. I’m from Meath so of course I support them and I also play for them. Then of course Manchester United , my favourite club since I was a baby. I was born in London so it was odd for me to support United but they will always be number one to me and it would be a dream come true to play for them

Manchester United Vs Manchester City December 2012

11 Dec

The two top teams in England went face to face at the Etihad stadium in Manchester on Sunday with last seasons runners up coming out on top thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney(2) and Robin Van Persie. United went ahead thanks to great link up play between Van Persie and Young and Rooney finished into the corner with a messy looking shot. They had scored at the fifteen minute mark and with twenty eight mins gone Rooney struck again to leave city fans and players shocked. They were comfortably ahead and should have been three up as Ashley Young finished but it was wrongly called for offside. Not long after that De Gea made a wonderful double save from Aguero and Silva but only the ball fell to Toure at the edge of the box and he finished well to make it 2-1. United should have been given a penalty after Evra was tripped in the box but nothing was given and then at the 85th minute City got a corner and the ball wasn’t cleared. Zabaleta was waiting at the top of the box to strike home and the city players were running back with the ball ready to chase United for the rest of the game. United brought on Welbeck and he hassled Clichy and won the ball off him in a dangerous position only for Clichy to foul him. So Rvp stood over the ball at the edge of the box in a perfect position for his left foot. And with 92 mins on the clock he struck home the winner to send the United players , staff and fans into massive celebrations. Unfortunately though a city fan threw a 2p coin at Rio Ferdinand and he had blood running down his face which is a disgrace on the part of the city fans. They will most likely be charged soon by the FA. But Manchester United go 6 points clear at the top of he table which will definitely put a smile on the face of United fans everywhere.

Meath Vs Offaly Fitzsimons Cup Final December

11 Dec

Mick O’Dowd

Once again new Meath manager Mick O’Dowd started with a very inexperienced and experimental line up in the final of the Fitzsimons Cup against Offaly in Kells on sunday. But unlike the last game this meath team could not get the resuly the new boss was looking for after they slumped to a 0-16 – 0-13 point loss to Offaly. Meath won the trophy in its first year last year but they could do a repeat of last year Both teams were level at the break with 11points a piece and it looked like in the second half that Meath had the upper hand as they led by two points with fifteen minutes remaining. But Meath were not to score again and Offaly kicked five unanswered points to win the trophy. Offaly had an impressive tournament after knocking out Louth in the semi final. Hopefully Offaly can keep this form going into the O Byrne cup which is when both teams line out again in January.  At least Mick O’Dowd had a chance to see some new faces play and hopefully some of the players played themselves into the squad. Michael Newman is one of many players that impressed at times throughout the tournament. Newman plays full forward and will be looking to earn a spot there full time now.

The Lakers travelled to Oklahhoma to take on the runners up of the nba championship on friday night. The lakers made it a very interesting ending to the game but could not finish off the Thunder. The Lakers had lost two out of there last three games and needed a win unlike the Thunder who were on fire with a six game win streak. The difference was that the Thunder were the more aggressive team and they dominated in the second quarter where they effectively won the game. Both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook had strong games with Durant leading all scorers with 36points and Westbrook with 33. Also Kobe Bryant had 35 for the Lakers. Pau Gasol and Steve Nash sat this match out which left the lakers struggling for scoring from other players. At one point in the final quarter the thunder were ahead by 19 but the Lakers came back at them but it was to little too late with the final score 114-108 for the Thunder. The Lakers have not started well at all this season and need to start playing if they are to challenge for a championship. The Thunder are playing some great stuff and are now on a seven straight win run so if they keep this form up , no doubt they will be up with the best at the end of the year.

Miami Heat Vs New York Knicks 6th December

8 Dec

The two teams with the best record in the east came head to head at the American Airlines Arena in Miami in Monday. The Knicks were without there top scorer Carmello Anthony as had to get stitches in his middle finger of his left hand sustained in the previous game and he was not able to play until the next game. But the Knicks were confident because of earlier in the season the Heat were beaten well in New York. Miami started well which is something they missed from there last few games and led by 3 at the end of the first quarter. The Knicks were getting into the game though and were hitting  big shots with Raymond Felton scoring big , he finished with 27 points and 7 assists. It ended level at the break with both teams finishing with 53 points. In the second half the Knicks were really playing well and turned up the heat on the heat. Jason Kidd and Steve Novak both knocking down big three’s. Dwayne Wade looked out of sort for the Heat and had a poor night shooting the ball , as did Chris Bosh. Also Shane Battier did not have a good game returning from injury. The Knicks continued to push on and were the the better team throughout the second half. The final score was 112 to 92 for the Knicks and it was the first loss at home for the Heat this season as well as the heaviest loss since the big three have been together. Le Bron James led the scoring in the game and had an impressive 31 points , 10 rebounds and 9 assists , nearly a second triple double in as many games. The Knicks will kick on from here and continue to impress while the Miami Heat will have to sort themselves out before the visit of the Hornets on Monday. They also need Dwayne Wade to find his shooting skills again.

Meath’s new manager Mick O’Dowd got off to a winning start with his new team with a narrow win against neighbour’s Cavan in Grangegodden Kells. It was an experimental side that was played with very little experience at senior level for Meath and Cavan. Players like Caolan Young , Davy Dalton , Cormac Rowe , Stephan Crosby and Michael Newman all got a starting spot for Meath and a chance to show the new boss what they could do. Cavan got the better of the early exchanges and were ahead at the break 0-6 to 0-5.  Meath kicked back though in the second half through strong displays from Michael Newman and Ciaran Lenehan. Meath ran out winners in the end thanks to Brian Sheridan’s goal which left the scores at 1-10 to 0-10. Meath will now go on to play Offaly in the final after they defeated Louth in the other semi final , while Cavan will take on Louth in the shield decider. The tournament hosted by Kells gives both teams and managers a good chance to look at there squad and to assess the new and different players he has in his squad.

Celtic Through to Knockout Stages Of Champions League

6 Dec

This year Scotland are represented in the Champions League by Celtic. After Rangers were thrown out of Europe and put to the bottom of the Scottish Leagues , everybody thought that the Scottish game would go in a massive decline. With no Celtic and Rangers matches occurring the revenue for Scotland would take a massive hit. Unless Celtic did well in Europe and they have done exactly that by finishing second in their group to Barcelona in a very successful group stages that seen Celtic defeat Barcelona 2-1 at Parkhead in Glasgow.

Celtics win against Barcelona was one of the greatest moments in the clubs history and one that the fans will never forget. The group was very narrowly decided with four top teams in there. Barcelona and Celtic went through with Benfica getting the Europa League spot. The money that Celtic will get from this will definitely help the economic situation in Glasgow and also it is where a top club like Celtic belong , playing with Europe’s elite clubs. It will be tough for them to get through as they can get teams in the next round like Man United and Borussia Dortmund. But Neil Lennon and his side will relish the chance to play against the best and maybe cause an upset just like they did against Barcelona. They will most definitely have there fans behind them with an electric atmosphere as usual.
